Customer Spotlight: My Father's Place Rocks with DiGiCo

A Long Island Music Icon Is Back. And Sounding Better Than Ever.

If you were part of Long Island's live music scene during the 1970s or 1980s, or are versed in its rich history, you've certainly heard of My Father's Place. First opened by Michael "Eppy" Epstein in 1971, the venue quickly became a hotbed of live music over the next two-plus decades, featuring acts ranging from The Police to Aerosmith, The Ramones to The Band, Joan Jett to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many, many more. The spot would eventually close in May of 1987 with a Tower Of Power show.

And now, the best part: My Father’s Place re-opened June 29th, 2018 with a sound system to match its legendary expectations. About half the size of the original club, the 2,700 square-foot venue is much more intimate, with less than 200 seats, and is now configured as a supper club. Epstein wanted to try a new format for live music: “When we started, almost 50 years ago, it was a different time and we were all kids who could put up with a lot of craziness. Now, these same kids have grown up and they want comfort, good food, and good sound.

The new club is located in Roslyn, New York, in the Roslyn Hotel, just a short distance from the original club. The club will feature the DiGiCo S31 as its main mixing console, supplied by Dale Pro Audio.

When it came time to set up the Front of House, Epstein turned to DiGiCo for the console. “I love the sound of the old analog consoles, but we needed to go digital because of the way the room is laid out, we just don’t have the space to put in a big old console. The S31 sounds great, it is compact, and it can handle a 10 or 12-piece act without a problem.” Epstein (above, left) turned to Tim Finnegan (above, right) at Dale Pro Audio to supply the console and related gear. “We put in a thousand feet of wiring and there were so many odds and ends we needed to buy,” said Epstein, “It’s not like the old days when you had to make everything yourself. Now you can buy just about everything you need if you have a good shop like Dale in the region.
