DW Fearn's gear has been something of a legend in the studio recording world, with each product being hand-built to order by Douglas Fearn himself. This often meant extended lead times, and little opportunity to get your hands on the hardware prior to purchase. Finding a shop where you could demo his acclaimed preamps, compressors, and EQ's wasn't easy.

Until now.

At the beginning of 2017, Hazelrigg Industries took over manufacturing and distribution duties from Doug, allowing him more time to focus on designs and development of new gear. This has meant much better availability for their products, while still maintaining Doug's standards for assembly, quality control, and personal attention to each piece of gear leaving the factory. Hazelrigg Industries has also graciously put two of these incredible processors in Dale's demo room for a limited time: the VT-7 tube compressor, and the DW Fearn/Hazelrigg collaboration VLC-1 mic preamp with EQ and DI input.

The VT-7 has an all Class-A vacuum tube audio path, like all DW Fearn products. The gain reduction elements utilize circuitry that duplicates the sound and characteristics of the finest classic vacuum tube compressors, without depending on tubes that are no longer manufactured.

The VLC-1 was designed as a lower cost alternative to the discontinued VT-15. It’s hand built in the same shop along side other D.W.Fearn products. It is constructed smaller and lighter with the intention that artists, producers, and engineers would take it along to sessions and be able to transport it in a carry-on suitcase. These units have been employed by top engineers and producers to capture vocals and instruments, and inserted on vocal channels or in pairs on the master bus for mix down. The VLC-1 utilizes the same preamp and power supply design as the VT family of preamps.
