Description
This model has been specifically designed for professional monitoring. It includes a 17 point 3D LUT for color calibrating any monitor, projector or television. You can even output the 3D LUT on the SDI loop output! Plus it supports DCI formats and film rates including 1080p24, 1080p47.95 and 1080p48.
The new Blackmagic Micro Converters are incredibly tiny broadcast video converters that let you connect between consumer HDMI and professional SDI equipment. The rugged and miniaturized design makes them small enough to be used anywhere! You get professional 3G-SDI or 12G-SDI connections, depending on the models, so you can work with SD, HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. Micro Converters use USB for power, so they can be powered directly from televisions or laptop computers. You can even purchase them without power supplies! Only Blackmagic Micro Converters feature custom electronics that conform to global broadcast specifications, and can be updated to new standards in the future.
Use Anywhere
Blackmagic Micro Converters are so small you can use them anywhere! That means it's always easy to keep a few available for any urgent conversion task! Because they are extremely high quality, you can trust them for all kinds of broadcast, live production and on set use. Use them to turn any computer display, television or video projector into a high quality color calibrated broadcast monitor. They're also perfect for converting the HDMI outputs of computers and consumer video cameras to high end SDI equipment. Imagine using a slide show running on a computer for high end broadcast quality titles in live production! You could even use them for extending HDMI long distances using SDI.
Miniaturized Design
Unlike other small SDI converters, Blackmagic Micro Converters feature the highest quality broadcast technology, miniaturized into an incredibly strong metal enclosure. Each converter has the highest quality broadcast industry standard SDI and HDMI connectors. Blackmagic Micro Converters include a USB connection for power, as well as for changing settings via the converter utility on Mac and Windows. Because the USB powers the converter, you can even power it from televisions or laptop computers. There are even LEDs for status. You can also buy Blackmagic Micro Converters with an AC power supply including 4 adapters for international use.
Broadcast Quality
Unlike cheap converters, Blackmagic Micro Converters include the highest quality signal processing and deep bit depth video pipeline. Micro Converters have been engineered with precision electronics so you get very low SDI jitter, allowing you to extend SDI cables over long distances. That's vital for live production where equipment such as cameras can be a long distance from switchers. Blackmagic Micro Converters work with both 8 and 10-bit video formats, in RGB or YUV, and in all SD, HD and Ultra HD formats, depending on the model, up to 2160p60. They even support 1080p24, 1080p47.95, 1080p48, 4Kp24, 4Kp47.95 and 4Kp48 film rates! Plus you get fully embedded audio and timecode support.
Update and Change Settings
You can also change settings and update the converter software with the free converter utility that can be downloaded from the Blackmagic Design web site. This software connects to the USB connection on the Micro Converters and runs on both Mac and Windows computers. You can use the utility to change the converter name, which can be useful for identifying which converter is used for which task! When using the bidirectional converter, you can even set the camera number, so the converter knows when it's being controlled from a live production switcher. You can also select between level A and level B when working with 3G-SDI video standards.
Latest HDR Support
Micro Converter 12G models have everything for the latest HDR workflows. Simply connect a HDR monitor, projector or TV and you are ready for HDR monitoring! Static metadata PQ and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) formats in the VPID are handled according to the ST2108-1, ST2084 and the ST425 standards. Micro Converter 12G models handle ST425 which defines 2 new bits in the VPID to indicate transfer characteristic of SDR, HLG or PQ. Plus the ST2108-1 standard defines how to transport HDR static or dynamic metadata over SDI. There is also support for ST2082-10 for 12G SDI as well as ST425 for 3G-SDI sources. Both Rec.2020 and Rec.709 colorspaces are supported.
Includes HDMI Timecode Support
The new Micro Converter models use a new Blackmagic Design custom hardware design so they're more advanced to better support the technical features critical to high end broadcast workflows. These features include support for HDMI and SDI timecode conversion. You even get full support for timecode in both standard definition and high definition video formats. This means if you have any HDMI device that supports timecode, you can convert it to SDI and get that timecode into larger broadcast systems. Blackmagic Micro Converters might be low cost, however they don't miss out on advanced features needed for high end film, television and post production work.
SDI Re‑clocking
Blackmagic Micro Converters include SDI re-clocking on the SDI output. SDI re-clocking will regenerate the SDI video, reduce SDI jitter and improve SDI eye pattern before the converter sends the signal to other equipment. This allows longer cable lengths because even degraded SDI signals can still be used. Other converters often leave out important features such as re-clocking so are not reliable for broadcast use. Blackmagic Micro Converters don't suffer from these problems because they are a more technically advanced design. All models comply with SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 296M, SMPTE 424M and SMPTE 425M broadcast standards. The 12G models add SMPTE 2081-10 and SMPTE 2082-10 standards.
Wider Range of SD and HD Video Standards
All Blackmagic Micro Converter models support SDI formats including 525i59.94 NTSC, 625i50 PAL, 720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60, 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97, 1080p30, 1080p47.95, 1080p48, 1080p50, 1080p59.94, 1080p60, 1080PsF25, 1080PsF29.97, 1080PsF30, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60, 2Kp23.98 DCI, 2Kp24 DCI, 2Kp25 DCI, 2Kp29.97 DCI, 2Kp30 DCI, 2Kp47.95 DCI, 2Kp48 DCI, 2Kp50 DCI, 2Kp59.94 DCI and 2Kp60 DCI, 2KPsF25 DCI, 2KPsF29.97 DCI and 2KPsF30 DCI. Plus 3G level A and B are supported.
USB or AC Power
The new Blackmagic Micro Converter models are powered via the same USB-C connection that's used on newer computers and smartphones so you can power the converter from the same television or computer you are converting the video for. You can also purchase Micro Converters with an AC power supply that supports 100 to 240V AC and comes with 4 different AC socket adapters so you can plug them into outlets anywhere in the world. That's perfect for when you're doing international work! You can even use smartphone chargers and rechargeable battery packs to power Micro Converters on set. With so many easy to use power solutions, you'll never be without a power supply again!
