Description

The KH 420 represents the result of using the latest techniques in acoustical, electronic and mechanical design to bring a new benchmark in audio reproduction quality. In-house computer optimized drivers, a waveguide featuring Mathematically Modeled Dispersion (MMD), flexible acoustical controls, various input options, and an extensive mounting hardware range allow the KH 420 to be used in diverse acoustical conditions, with any source equipment, and in a wide variety of physical locations. The KH 420 has been designed for use as a mid-field or main monitor. It is particularly well-suited for use in music, broadcast, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering. The KH 420 can be used free-standing or flush mounted into a wall, and, in multichannel systems, can be mixed freely with other loudspeakers in the range.

Features:

  • Computer mechanically modeled three-way cabinet design using Low resonance Integral Molding (LRIM) materials
  • New in-house simulated magnetically shielded drivers
  • Powerful alloy fabric dome tweeter with built-in grille
  • Fabric dome, neodymium magnet, midrange driver
  • Long throw bass driver with Extremely Linear Force Factor (ELFF) and flow optimized die cast basket
  • High-capacity flow-optimized bass reflex ports with pipe damped
  • Elliptical Mathematically Modeled Dispersion (MMD) waveguide, with wide horizontal and narrow vertical dispersion
  • Two-color dimmable Neumann logo
  • Fast-acting independent thermo limiters for woofer, midrange dome and tweeter to protect the voice coils. Woofer soft clip and excursion limiters.
  • Production consistency due to individual hand-alignment in final test
  • 4-position bass, low-mid and treble acoustical controls and easy to use parametric equalizer
  • Wide range input gain and output level controls
  • Ground lift
  • Optional (DIM 1) digital XLR/BNC inputs and buffered BNC output
  • Optional (DIM 1) lipsync delay (0 ¦ 10/12 frames)
  • Optional (DIM 1) time-of-flight delay (0 ¦ 400 ms)
  • Universal dual (bass and mid/treble) switched-mode power
  • Fully documented extensive mounting hardware options
  • Optional robust metal grille
  • Optional transportation accessories

The active 3-way system (10+3+1) is ideal for larger 5.1 and 7.1 configurations and listening distances of up to 11 meters. With a corner frequency of 52 Hz, the KH 120 nearfield monitor set new standards in its class for low frequency performance. Neumann engineers have succeeded in raising the bar with the KH 420; its 26 Hz corner frequency is not only lower than other comparable midfield monitors, but a whole octave lower than the KH 120. Anyone requiring even lower bass reproduction for surround systems with a dedicated LFE channel can add the KH 870 woofer to extend the response down to 18 Hz.

Computer-optimized drivers, the Mathematically Modeled Dispersion Waveguide (MMDTM), acoustical controls for matching the speakers to the listening room, a highly flexible input section, and a wide range of mounting hardware make the KH 420 a versatile monitoring tool for the audio professional. The KH 420 has been designed to provide optimum dispersion regardless of the orientation of the cabinet. This is possible thanks to the rotatable waveguide section which contains both the high frequency and midrange drivers.

An optional Digital Input Module (DIM 1) is available for the KH 420 which provides the monitor with digital AES3 and S/P-DIF inputs and a delay function. This feature, which is available on both the digital and analog inputs, may be used for audio/video lip synchronization and to compensate for non-equidistant speaker placement. Maximum delay time is 409.5 ms with a minimum resolution of 0.1 ms.
