AES and NAB New York 2024 Recap

AES 2024

Last week's co-located AES Convention and NAB Show New York brought nearly 20,000 audio professionals to the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC, with exhibitors showing off the latest in greatest in today's (and tomorrow's) technology for media creation and delivery. In these halls, one would find new audio gear, AI innovations, new standards coming into greater adoption, exciting new immersive experiences, and so much more.

Dale AES Booth

One of those exhibitor booths was none other than Dale Pro Audio, alongside some of our valued partners: Glensound, TSL, DirectOut, Merging Technologies, Yamaha Commercial Audio, RTW, and Point Source Audio.

Our booth in the AES hall was full from start to finish: it was a great mixture of both new and familiar faces, from near and far, all getting to meet our team of Sales Professionals and representatives/specialists from our dealer partners.

Here were some of the new product announcements from the show floor:

  • We got our first look at the Merging Technologies Hapi MkIII and the soon to be released Pyramix 15.
  • ADAM Audio released their new H200 headphones and their desktop D3V monitors (available in black or white) for use in small studios and editing stations.
  • Glensound brought along their new Dark Dawn 1616 networked audio interface.
  • Focusrite displayed their new and improved Scarlett Gen 4 interfaces. Models include the 16i16, 18i16, and 18i20.
  • Genelec announced their innovative new UNIO system - taking the benefits of studio monitoring to headphones like never before.
  • Telos Alliance showed off their small yet powerful Vx Duo - an VoIP talk show control unit.
  • DirectOut Technologies shrunk down their PRODIGY series technology into the new, 1RU compact MAVEN.A modular interface.
  • Solid State Logic is now shipping their new SSL 2 MkII and SSL 2+ MkII audio interfaces with 4K console processing.
  • TSL revealed their new PAM2-12G Precision Audio Monitor for broadcast applications.
  • Shure re-entered the studio microphone world with the SM4 - designed for musicians / broadcasters / podcasters / content creators. Also available in a Studio Kit)
  • Digital Audio Denmark announced the new CONTROL PACK software for compatible ThunderCore products - this free update is full of useful features for live performance applications.
  • We got our first in-person look at the Apogee Symphony Studio series interfaces.
SMPTE 2110

The show wasn't just about new products - a huge buzz around the more broadcast-savvy folks was the continued adoption of the SMPTE ST-2110 networked audio standard. Our Technology Development Manager Joel Guilbert has been following this trend closely for a while: "The continued adoption of the SMPTE 2110 standards has injected some real enthusiasm into the broadcast and pro audio worlds", he noted. "We are looking forward to building on this momentum."
