Avid Connect 2018 Recap

April 13, 2018

Innovation In Action.

Content everywhere. Distribution everywhere. Monetization everywhere. There are massive opportunities in media and entertainment today. And the world’s most innovative and influential community of industry professionals in on the move. And it all comes together at Avid Connect, held each April in Las Vegas just ahead of the NAB Show at the Wynn Resort and Casino.

The Avid Customer Association (ACA) is a customer-led initiative with 20,000+ members from around the world, and the extensive contributions from the many business trendsetters, technology innovators, and award-winning creative artists from across the ACA community are what makes Avid Connect an incredibly valuable event to attend.

Avid Connect offers a great opportunity for the company to show off their new announcements, directives, and a "state of the union" company overview. The three-day event is comprised of panels, workshops, networking opportunities, and a Steve Jobs-style keynote presentation by company CEO Jeff Rosica.

Rosica (at right) in his keynote address discussed "disruption" in the industry and how "everyone is in everyone else's business these days", and stressed that Avid's mission is to help its customer base stay on top of an ever-changing multimedia world.

Chief Product Officer Dana Ruzicka then took over, going over a series of new product announcements. He detailed the new rebranded software products in the Pro Tools, Media Composer, and Sibelius families. Each one now has a free First edition, the standard edition, and an Ultimate edition. The most notable piece of this is the "retirement" of the Pro Tools | HD name in favor of Pro Tools | Ultimate, adding more plugins, improved Cloud functionality, and better Dolby Atmos integration.

Another exciting development is the Avid Connect App for end users to link up, share ideas, hire one another, and much more.

Some really interesting developments came in the field of live sound, with the VENUE | S6L series being greatly expanded with three new surfaces and three new engines. This adds to a series of introductions earlier in the year of Waves SoundGrid compatibility and tablet-based in-ear monitoring.

To wrap it up, Rosica came back to thank Avid's user community, declaring that Avid "are your biggest fans and that the future will only be more and more bright".

Dale Pro Audio is proud to maintain the status of Avid Elite Solutions Provider.
