DTV Audio Group at AES 2019

We were proud to be a sponsor of this year's DTV Audio Group at AES, hosted by our friends at the Sports Video Group during last week's convention.

The DTVAG meeting at this years’ AES was a truncated affair, but still managed to touch on hot button topics in the broadcast audio world.

It was centered around a panel featuring Sean Richardson, Executive Director, Starz Network, Jim Starzinski, Director and Principal audio engineer, NBC Universal, Tim Carroll, Senior Director Technology, Sound Group in the Office of the CTO, Dolby, and Brian Rio, Director of Sound Design, Turner Studios, moderated by Roger Charlesworth of the DTV Audio Group.

Topics included immersive audio, how most, if not all OTT services are offering immersive at this point. New technologies coming with ATSC 3.0, like Voice Boost, and a look forward to upcoming trends: increased personalization being one topic everybody agreed upon is going to be at the forefront.

“The rule book for television distribution is being completely re-written. The migration away from traditional broadcasting to IP delivery continues to accelerate the uptake of advanced encoding solutions and sophisticated audio services,” says Charlesworth. “This transition creates new challenges in providing quality and consistency across an ever-widening range of devices and environments. Please join the DTVAG for a discussion of these and other important television audio issues.”
