#Ham4Ham Rocks Out With Sennheiser

evolution wireless D1 improves Hamilton lotteries and mini-performances

Hamilton: An American Musical has taken Broadway by storm with 16 Tony Award nominations and unprecedented advance box office sales. Prior to performances, Hamilton offers a ticket lottery and mini-performance outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre on 46th Street in Manhattan. The lotteries and concerts (organized by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda) are called "#Ham4Ham" shows due to the fact that winners can present a Hamilton (a $10 bill) to see Hamilton.

The Challenge
Until recently #Ham4Ham performers used hand-held megaphones with less than optimal results: the lotteries attract over 1000 people and projecting sound with megaphones resulted in many in the crowd not hearing much of anything.

Derek Healy, House Electrician for the Richard Rodgers Theatre, contacted Tim Brown at Dale Pro Audio to discuss possible solutions. Due to the RF congestion of the area (four theatres are located on the same block) a digital system was recommended, and ultimately Sennheiser's evolution wireless D1 system was selected.

The Solution - Sennheiser evolution wireless D1
Evolution Wireless D1 offers up to 15 compatible channels in the license-free 2.4 GHz band, and features automatic frequency management and gain control. Derek selected (2) handheld vocal systems which feature e 835 cardioid capsules to reject feedback and include a convenient mute-switch for easy operation. After the systems were installed, Tim had the pleasure of interviewing Derek at a recent #Ham4Ham event and you can view the video above.

The first #Ham4Ham show using the Sennheiser systems featured New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio as guest speaker, and the improvement in audio quality and speech intelligibility was remarkable. Subsequent #Ham4Ham shows have featured Broadway star Terrence Mann, and director/producer/composer J. J. Abrams.
