Sennheiser Master Class - High Resolution Audio

Sennheiser Comes to NYC with Skywalker Sound's Leslie Ann Jones

In today's digital music world, how important is audio quality? With so many options available for listening - streaming over Spotify, downloading songs from iTunes, and so forth - are you really hearing music in its best form?

In this masterclass hosted by our valued partners at Sennheiser, Skywalker Sound's Leslie Ann Jones tackled these topics. Drawing from her extensive background spanning decades of work, Leslie demystified audio file formats, discussed some of the ins and outs of sample rates, bit rates, and their relationship with bandwidth and transmission protocols. She also discussed the theories of active listening versus passive listening, and how to choose some of the best bit rates for various markets and listening applications. To close out the session and to illustrate some of her discussion, we were treated to some audio examples in a "blind test", with the same selections being played in different resolutions.

About Leslie Ann Jones:
A recording and mixing engineer and record producer for over 30 years, Leslie has held staff positions at ABC Recording Studios in Los Angeles, the Automatt Recording Studios in San Francisco, Capitol Studios in Hollywood, and now Skywalker sound where she continues her career recording and mixing music for records, films, video games, and television.

She is a past Chair of The Recording Academy’s Board of Trustees and is the recipient of 4 Grammy Awards, including 2 for Best Engineered Album-Classical. She serves on the Advisory Boards of Institute for Musical Arts, Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, and is an Artistic Advisor to the new Technology and Applied Composition degree program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
