NAB 2016 Recap

Covering Broadcast's Largest Event of the Year.

Each April, thousands of people from all over the world converge on the "fabulous" city of Las Vegas for the NAB show. The National Association of Broadcasters announced a registered 2016 attendance of 103,012 for the world's largest annual convention covering filmed entertainment and the development, management and delivery of content across all mediums. The exhibition featured 1,874 companies spanning 1,063,380 net square feet of exhibit space at the massive Las Vegas Convention Center.

Across the many different sections one could find manufacturers of all sorts of media technologies. Radio, television, online content? Check. Immersive technology such as virtual reality and 360-degree sound. Drone technology, aerial cameras, all here. Sports audio and video, intercom, telephone/IP solutions... Ram Trucks were even there showing off their vehicles for picking out remote van models! One truly needed four days to take it all in.

Dale Pro Audio's team of attendees included Vice President Steve Strassberg, Technology Development Manager Joel Guilbert, Senior Broadcast Sales Professional Joe Prout, and Sales Professional Eric Eldredge. Eric sent out an array of updates throughout the show - check out all the findings now up on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Joel Guilbert observes: "The NAB show was an especially optimistic edition this year. Of course, there were the ubiquitous drones (so many drones), 4,6,12K+ and cloud based xyz. A real thrust of the show was based around IP and network based audio and video products. Basic understanding was that this is (inevitability) the future was understood. New video standards TR-03 and TR-04 allow audio, video and data to co-exist synchronously, and AES67 is the audio format used in these standards. The great news is that a lot of Dale's close partners are on the forefront of these technologies!"

Steve Strassberg adds: "The NAB show has evolved over the years into a wonderful melting pot of technology. It is not just the broadcast centric show of yesteryear. The NAB show continues to reinvent itself to encompass the technologies that will end up somewhere between the laboratory and the home on a global level. For those of us that are lucky enough to attend it is an amazing opportunity."
