This Is Where Momentum Builds.

Each April, just prior to the NAB convention, Avid hosts the Avid Connect conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The annual meeting of the Avid Customer Association (ACA), it brings together a wide array of Avid users, solutions providers, technical advisors, and dealer representatives. This year's convention drew in nearly 1300 people from all over the globe.

Avid's figures reported attendees from no fewer than 52 countries, representing over 600 unique organizations. These included studios, post houses, schools and universities, houses of worship, broadcasters, integration firms, and many more. This year's edition was held from April 15th to 17th at the luxurious Wynn-Encore resort, right in the center of the Las Vegas Strip.

After a series of private meetings involving advisory boards throughout the day on the 15th, Avid welcomed the general attendees with a cocktail reception, also taking the time to thank the event's co-sponsors Hewlett-Packard and NVIDIA.

Saturday, the real fun began as the general session was underway. As with each Avid Connect, CEO and Chairman Louis Hernandez Jr. welcomed everyone, and delved into the state of affairs at Avid. He reported some impressive growth in overall sales figures since the inception of Avid Everywhere last year:

  • Audio Sales: 38% increase
  • Software Subscriptions: 400% increase
  • New Users: 200,000 new Avid users
  • Platform Sales: 54% increase
  • Digital Sales: 48% increase

The presentation then included a few case study videos from their broadcast and ENG clientele. New products announced were the new NEXIS media server platform and the all new Pro Tools 12.5. This version at long last includes the Cloud Collaboration, which Avid demonstrated with a live call-in to guitar legend George Lynch, who added an overdub from his Los Angeles home to an awaiting session in seconds.

The rest of the convention Saturday and Sunday was divided up into breakout sessions and discussion panels, allowing attendees to get more detailed tips, seminars, and feedback on the more specialized aspects of their needs.

Many thanks to Avid for their hard work and hospitality this weekend.
